Tales of Symphonia Chronicles

JPGAMES.DE: Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World war ursprünglich für Nintendo Wii erschienen.

Tales of Symphonia Chronicles

JPGAMES.DE: Nun unsere letzte Frage, wer ist Ihr Lieblingscharakter in Tales of Symphonia Chronicles?

JPGAMES.DE: Vielen Dank!!

Baba: Dankeschön!

English transcript of our inteview with Hideo Baba:

JPGAMES.DE: We appreciate that we get a Limited Edition of Tales of Symphonia Chronicles. Do you like Limited Editions and for what other games would you like to see a Limited Edition?

Baba: The Collector’s Edition is especially for the core fans because we really want to provide some additional values to the European fans so that they can enjoy the games even more. We have begun to provide this kind of Collector’s Edition to the European fans with Tales of Xillia, so when a new title arrives in Europe, I want to constitute it interesting items in the Collector’s Edition.

JPGAMES.DE: You visited Europe quite often by now. How do you like Europe and, especially, Germany?

Baba: For example at Japan Expo, I’m really glad that many open people enjoy having interests in Japanese culture and there are other similar events in Europe. In Germany, I realized during the last few years that more and more users are interested in the Tales of Series. So, I’m really glad about that and I want to communicate directly with fans in upcoming events as well.

JPGAMES.DE: Will there be any differences from the original games in the gameplay of Tales of Symphonia Chronicles?

Baba: As I explained in the preceding presentation, of course there is some additional content in Tales of Symphonia Chronicles. One is the Mystic Artes in Tales of Symphonia which have a new exclusive artwork when the player is attacking with Mystic Artes. In the recent titles, the costume change became a standard feature in the series, so in Tales of Symphonia in Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, there will be new costumes from previous titles. Furthermore, the remixed Japanese theme song will be implemented in the European version as well. But I believe that the biggest new feature are the Japanese voice-overs, so I’m very glad that European fans can finally enjoy the Japanese voice-overs.

JPGAMES.DE: Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World was originally published for Nintendo Wii. How difficult was it to port the game for PlayStation 3?

Baba: Frankly speaking, there were not many problems in porting Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World to PS3. But on the other hand, there were many problems bringing Tales of Symphonia to PS3 because we used the PS2 version and this version was only released in Japan before, so we needed to make some adjustments.

JPGAMES.DE: How will the distribution of the bonus costumes in Tales of Symphonia be handled in Europe? Tales of Vesperia for PlayStation 3 and Tales of Xillia 2 aren’t available yet in Europe.

Baba: Today, we just showed the costumes from Tales of the Abyss and we will release more information about the costumes later on, we can’t say more right now.

JPGAMES.DE: How do you decide if a game of the franchise gets a sequel?

Baba: When we look at the history of Tales of, only three titles had a sequel so far: Destiny, Symphonia and Xillia. When we start to talk about a new title, we have no plans to make a sequel, but after the release of Xillia, for example, we realized that we could utilize a sequel to give more details about the world and so we decided to develop Xillia 2.

JPGAMES.DE: So will there be more sequels in the future?

Baba: (laughs) I cannot say that there is no possibility for more sequels in the future, but I can say that I have no plans to make sequels of previous titles.

JPGAMES.DE: Will the newly published and announced games for smartphones also be available on western markets?

Baba: Currently we have no plans to bring these games to Europe because in Japan, we work together with social games companies and so we can’t decide about a European release by ourselves.

JPGAMES.DE: Where does the inspiration for the names of the Tales games comes from?

Baba: We think that the storyline is very important in the Tales of series, we always put a big theme in the storyline. First, we decide a theme and the storyline and afterward we decide on the title. Then we look for a word that expresses best the theme and storyline, so we search in different languages and so we find the new title.

JPGAMES.DE: With more sales of PlayStation Vita we want to ask you again: Will there be a possibility for Tales of Innocence R and Tales of Hearts R in the west?

Baba: You always ask the same questions! (laughs) So, I need to say sorry again, we don’t have any plans to release Innocence R or Hearts R in Europe. But I understand that a lot of fans want to play these games and I will explore further possibilities.

JPGAMES.DE: Now for our last question, which is your favorite character in Tales of Symphonia Chronicles?

Baba: My favorite character in Tales of Symphonia Chronicles is Lloyd, the main character from Tales of Symphonia, because Tales of Symphonia was the first 3D game in the series and the gamer, including myself, can easily understand the feel about the immersion that Lloyd has. At the beginning of the game, Lloyd and the other characters live for adventure and Lloyd is growing up very strongly, so I really feel how Lloyd feels and grows up.

JPGAMES.DE: Thank you very much!

Baba: Thank you!
